Simply Amour Weddings

Wedding Planning & Design

Simply Amour Weddings in 2015

Hey Ya’ll!! I know that it has been awhile and I just wanted to let you know we have been busy as ever! We had so many beautiful weddings in 2014 and I promise to catch you up on every single one of them. The last few weeks we have been creating a whole new brand, same gal, same name, just a little revamp of greatness for 2015! My main design gal Callen Guidry with CLG Photography & Design  always stuns me with her work, and when I asked her about creating a new brand for me I knew it would be nothing short than exceptional!

Almost every time I mention to someone that I am a Wedding Planner I’ll get questions like what made you want to become a wedding planner? Then they want to know all about New Orleans and my favorite part about it. So when Helen at Borrowed & Blue, a New Orleans online wedding resource, asked me to go into detail about what it’s like planning weddings in New Orleans! I was more than happy to share!

Here’s a quote from Helen, Borrowed & Blue’s New Orleans Marketing Specialist.

“Borrowed & Blue knows that everyone in the world deserves a beautiful wedding, and the wedding world is made up of all sorts of brilliant local vendors who use their expertise to help you plan an amazing event. That’s why we need amazing New Orleans wedding vendors like Shelley at Simply Amour Weddings! Professionals like Shelley are incredible sources of information. Not only does she have a long history of planning unique, beautiful events—she also knows the NOLA wedding community like the back of her hand! We’re so excited to get to know Shelley a little bit better through this fun Q&A and learn more about her work”

Shelley! Was it always your dream to become a wedding planner?

Absolutely, ever since I was a young girl planning my birthday parties was something I always loved doing.  I attended so many weddings as child and just grew so fond over the beautiful dress, all the flowers, decor, and the love that filled the whole room. I knew that the logistics of how these weddings came together was my calling. I know it sounds so cliché but it’s so true. After a couple of years of working with some fabulous planners, tons of prayers, sweat, and tears. Simply Amour Weddings was born and I’ve never looked back.

What is one interesting fact that you’d like your couples to know about you?

I am a collector of antiques. Being that I wish I was born in the 20’s. I am a sucker for those old things, some just might think is trash. I have collected things from fine antique china, old New Orleans Widows, down to Great Grandmas old mason Jars.

Describe your event aesthetic in four words?

Captivating, Southern, Elegant, and Personalized.

Tell us your favorite moment in a wedding day and why you love it.

It’s so hard to just pick one!! But, since you’re making me… I would have to say my favorite is that moment the bride is sharing sweet words with her father before they make the walk down the aisle, the moment where I fluff the train of her dress before she walks down the aisle, followed by the look on the groom’s face when he sees his bride for the first time. I think that’s my one “BIG” favorite part of the wedding day.I love those special moments that you have dreamed about since you were a little girl.

Share one of your favorite memories from a wedding you planned—sweet, or funny, or silly!

One of my favorite memories is at the end of every wedding when my clients hug me and thank me for making their wedding day enjoyable. You see the joy of the newly married couples face. You know that they have enjoyed every moment and you have done another job well done!

What wedding trends are you seeing this season?

Rule Breakers, Couples are breaking your traditional wedding etiquette rules and doing what fits them as a couple and I personally love it. I always strive to execute each of my clients events ensuring that we project details that are to true to them as a couple.

What tips do you have for newly engaged couples?

Think of what’s most important you both as a couple and individually. Dream Big and then make cuts! Always start with everything you always wanted in your wedding day. Then look at your budget and make adjustments!

Where do you go on a day off in New Orleans?

I love to be tourist in my own city. There is always something new and exciting to try in New Orleans. My family and I also love the Audubon Institutes. We love swimming with the elephants at Cool Zoo and touching the sting rays at the Aquarium of Americas.

What makes New Orleans weddings unique?

There are a millions ways I can tell you what sets the City of New Orleans a part from most. My favorite part about our city is the people and then the food. The cultural we have in our city is something that you and your guest will never forget.

What is one thing you could change about the wedding industry, if you could?

I don’t think I would change a thing. I tell everyone how blessed we are to have not just a city of just amazing vendors, but a state of amazing vendors. I haven’t met a vendor yet that hasn’t become a friend.

Make sure you check out Borrowed & Blue—their site can help you find awesome New Orleans wedding inspiration and more!

She already had a team of amazing vendors put together and I knew it was going to be one of the funnest weddings yet. I was blessed during our planning process with the joy of another baby. There was no way I was backing out on her and at 36 weeks pregnant and might I add,  40% chance of rain crashing our orginal ceremony spot, Everything was gorgeous!!!

I know it’s a long overdue blog post, but I can assure you these gorgeous weddings are to die for. The details were amazing this bride had the best taste, from choosing the venue right  on the bayou at Palmettos on the Bayou to the fabulous dress she rocked all night. I was so  giddy all night and I’m so happy I was able to be apart of Stephanie and Donovan’s wedding. Take a look for your self.

Todays Mood Board Monday is inspired by the Gulf Coast and a love for boating and being at the beach. Nautical theme is showing up everywhere in weddings and I personally love it.Image One of my favorite pictures above is the oyster shell. I like the idea of using them as place cards.
